I also feel Calvin will definitely get the nod if Rachel doesn't go. The owners & trainer would jump at the chance to get Borel back on MTB. But if Borel rides Rachel(if she goes), I think I am looking for patient riders who go well on come behind horses in big races. Those riders fighting that description(in my opinion): Julien Leparoux, Nakatani, and Gomez(even though he's probably committed on another).

Get Casey Lambert to come ride in the Belmont. Better still would be Quincy Hamilton. He will damn sure go thru a hole in a heart beat.

If RA goes Calvin is out. Why should they have to wait and see what he does? It looks to me like they were looking for a rider when they found Calvin. The horse looks so easy to ride, just put him in D and go. You can put him anywhere you want and he is going to run his race. I feel for Mine That Bird's connections. I appreciate Calvin's loyalty to the mare but there are lots of good jockeys who can ride The Bird. This is my opinion only. I personally don't like to be sitting waiting on another trainer to make up his mind as to who may or may not ride my horse. It's not like he is an also ran!!!!"

I hope they pick a NY rider who has won the Belmont Stakes before. "Big Sandy" being the US's only mile & one half track, is not for the inexperienced. Even the very best riders have just missed. Example: Alydar & Jorge Velasquez.
